Dear Members
The remit which APEM fulfils, member numbers and its equity have grown seen first being founded. For this reason the APEM committee are looking to update our constitution and charitable status to align with current best practice and to best suit your needs as members. This will necessitate instructing a solicitor.
We can do nothing, but this leaves our current (voluntary) trustees personally liable for any damages should there be a legal case against APEM; whilst unlikely, this could impact what we can usefully do. Doing nothing, also means we are limited in what changes we can enact, without a member vote. We are likely currently in breach or our constitution with the bursaries and prizes we provide.
Neither your membership status, or fees will be impacted by this and we see it as a way to enable us to continue to move forward. Below is the version of the constitution that we are working towards approving,
Our current constitution mandates that we need 10% of our members to approve any changes. With over 650 paying members we need you to agree to us looking to make these changes. Please can you respond with “yes” if you agree to updating our constitution or “no” if you disagree in the poll in the link provided.
Do you agree for APEM to update its constitution and charitable status?
